The Bet
This tale, written by Russian author and dramaturge Anton Chekhov, is not only a digital page-turner, but also asks several ethical questions of the reader as it documents the series of events surrounding two characters; one being a banker motivated by greed and arrogance, the other a reckless young lawyer who willingly undergoes self-imprisonment for fifteen years in order to tap into the depths of the human psyche. The Bet makes for an interesting lesson for any literature class; especially if that literature class happens to be deconstructing narrative form, as Chekov is regarded as one of the greatest short story writers of all-time.
