Many remember that at the center of the most recent Apocalypse-scare (2012) was the supposed prophecy of the ancient Mayans, who had; according to legend; prophesied their own downfall. Certain recent evidence however, (our still being here), has prompted scientists and historians both to re-evaluate the myth of the Mayan apocalypse, and try to derive what kinds of natural conditions may have transpired to destroy their society. This piece runs through all of these Mayan doomsday scenarios one by one. It should have application in both science and history classes.
