Middle school is a crucial time for students when studying mathematics. Algebra presents an entirely new way of thinking about problem solving with the introduction of equations and variables. Some students may begin to struggle in math, and soon regard themselves “bad at math.” However, this notion is invalid. Research has shown that students’ attitudes towards math greatly affect their math abilities. With good study habits, a positive attitude, and some extra help, students who are struggling with math can learn how to excel in math. It has become socially acceptable to be bad at math, and this piece helps show that we must change our thinking. All students should strive to be good at math, not just a selected few.
